Recently, participants from more than 170 countries are taking part in this forum organized after the passage of the Global Digital Compact. Its theme is: Building our multistakeholder digital future.
The Digital Compact Framework was adopted under the Compact for the Future, which aims to ensure that digital technologies are used in the best interests of humanity.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in his message for the event, emphasized the power of digital technology to bring about transformative change.
He said digital technology has fundamentally reshaped our world and has immense potential to accelerate human progress.
“But unlocking these possibilities for all will require a collaborative approach to protection and governance.”
During the forum, digital inclusion, implementation of artificial intelligence technology and measures to combat misinformation spread online will be discussed.
Bridging the digital divide
The use of digital technology has expanded rapidly, but despite this, 2.6 billion people around the world still do not have access to the Internet. Most of this population resides in developing countries.
Bridging this gap and promoting trust and security in the digital world will be the focus of discussion during the Internet Forum.
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdullah Al-Sawaha, said the forum, organized in Riyadh, is a global platform to promote international digital cooperation in the era of artificial intelligence (AI).
He called upon all stakeholders to contribute to the promotion of Internet governance through innovative measures and ensure a prosperous, sustainable digital future for all.
AI technology
Over the next four days at the Riyadh Forum, participants will discuss a wide range of topics including AI governance, online security, sustainable digital practices and more.
Various sessions will also focus on innovative solutions, especially for providing technology benefits to underprivileged communities. In addition, measures to prevent hate speech and messages and the spread of misinformation online will also be discussed.
An important objective of the Internet Forum is to strengthen human rights in the digital world, protect privacy and promote fair use of data.
Led by the Internet Governance Forum and the Global Digital Compact, the focus is on constructive cooperation, to advance the well-being of humanity through technology and leave no one behind.
