General Secretary Antonio Gutresh attended a Garland event in Baghdad on Sunday. The event was held on August 7, 2010 to commemorate the victims of the bomb at the Canal Hotel, which was the most terrifying terrorist attack in UN history.
The attack killed 22 people, Vieira de Mail, then special representative of the United Nations, in favor of Iraq. More than 100 people were also injured. The survivors of the attack also attended the event on Sunday.
The family is still mourning
On the occasion, UN General Secretary Antonio Guteresh said, “22 years long, but we will never forget the bombs killed in the canal hotel.”
He said, “These employees, some sons and daughters, parents and friends who still remember their loved ones and are satisfied with mourning.”
The general secretary said, “We will always remember his leader Sergio Viera de Melly who was killed in the attack.
General Secretary Gogsh said that the monument paid homage to those people’s lives and their contribution to the people of Iraq. At the same time, it reminds us how long this country has decided since 2003.
He said that the UN women and men are working continuously to support the people with the bold and view of Iraq in the objects of the people to support their desire for stability, development and peace.
The general secretary emphasized that “this monument is” clearly reminded us of how important our company is doing around the world and what our people will face when doing that work. “
Missing humanitarian support worker
The UN General Assembly passed a proposal five years after the attack, which was announced on August 7 as the World Human Day.
The general secretary said, “This date, which was once in Iraq was once on the day of unimaginable fears and tragedy, now turned into a global memory day forever, which is dedicated to all humanists inside and outside the organization.”
He said, “Their courage, dedication and belief that a better future is possible, we will always be inspired … and on August 8, 20, whose life is over, their contribution and sacrifice will not be forgotten in our world’s important objectives – and peace.”
Iraq met with the Prime Minister
It is noteworthy that the United Nations Secretary -General arrived in Baghdad to attend the Arab League summit on Saturday. During this time, he also met with Prime Minister Mohammad Shia Al -Sudani, including senior officials in Iraq.
In a conversation held on Sunday, both sides discussed the current location of Iraq and the region and the remaining term of the UN Iraq Aid Mission (UNAMI).
The general secretary assured that the UN would be fully committed to supporting the government and the public even after leaving the country.
UNAMI has been working in Iraq for 25 years and has been working to expire its term later this year.
