Jammu and Kashmir: India and Pakistan request to apply maximum restraint

In response to a question asked by a journalist at the New York headquarters on Thursday, UN spokesman Stepan Duzrik said the general secretary condemned the terrorist attacks on April 22, where many ordinary citizens were killed.

He said that the UN chief was not directly contacted by the two countries, but he was concerned about the current situation and kept a close eye on developments.

On Tuesday, armed extremists attacked tourists at Basaran Valley, popular tourist destinations in Jammu and Kashmir, Pahalgam, where at least 26 people were killed and many were injured.

General Secretary Gutresh mentioned that the target attacks by ordinary citizens could not be taken under any circumstances.

The UN spokesman has applied for the maximum restraint to India and Pakistan and to ensure that the situation is not worsened.

“We believe that any problem can be solved between Pakistan and India and should be resolved through peaceful, meaningful and mutual communication and interaction.”

When the UN spokesperson was questioned about the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, he revisited the urge to remain maximum restraint.

He warned that any such action should be avoided, so that the situation deteriorated and pressed on the stressed region already.
