Five bodies were recovered in Jakhara, 5 km from the coastal city of Libya, and at least five bodies were found in a combined tomb found in the Arcufr Desert. It is feared that the second tomb may have up to 70 bodies.
No information was found on the number of dead or their nationality at this point. The United Nations Migration Agency says bullet marks are published in several companies.
In Libya, the head of the IOM’s mission, Nicolata Geoordano, said the meeting of these graves is a tragedy, which shows that no dignitaries face risky travels.
“During this visit, lots of migrants have to fight with deep exploitation, violence and misbehavior, which reflects the need for priority to conserve people in the face of human rights and risk.”
Police raided a center of human trafficking, where hundreds of immigrants were rescued from smuggling. After that, the bodies were recovered in these graves.
After crossing the Libyan desert, the path to reach the Mediterranean coastal region often used smugglers to take people to Europe.
Meanwhile, security forces are taking steps to arrest the people responsible for the death of immigrants in Libya. According to The News Medium, a Libyan and two foreign nationals have been arrested.
The United Nations Migration Agency has requested the Libyan administration that the recovery, identity and their information process should be prestigious.
Risky journey
This is not the first that a mass tomb has been recovered in Libya. In March 2021, 655 migrant bodies were recovered in the south -west of the country.
According to the UN Agency’s ‘Missing Immigrant’ project, a total of 965 cases were registered in 2021 and immigrants were registered, of which about 22 percent were made on the ground route.
The agency says it shows that the risks of immigrants on the ground route are often ignored. Death information is not collected there.
In view of this, the emphasis is on raising data, rescue and promoting the search for immigrants to ensure the protection of immigrants, so that life can be protected.
The Migration Agency has appealed to the government and administrative agencies of all countries to smuggle to take rescue measures through regional cooperation regardless of the position of these migrants.
