Myanmar: Earthquake destruction, war shadow and human crisis are more deeper

According to the UN estimate, the magnitude of the magnitude 28.7.7.7.7 caused heavy catastrophe in the middle of Myanmar, where about 5,000 people were killed and more than 3,000 were injured.

Earthquake infrastructure and thousands of houses were destroyed in Myanmar’s Mandal, Saging and Magway regions.

The disaster in Myanmar, who is already fighting the serious crisis, has made the situation worse. Thousands of more homeless have become homeless due to the earthquake, and more than 2 million people have been displaced in the country since the 2021 military coup.

Giving reporters about their three -day visit to the UN headquarters in New York, George Morira Da Silva, executive director of the UN Project Services Office (UNOPS), said, “People could not rescue from this severe earthquake, which was the most powerful earthquake in the country.”

He said, “The devastation caused by the earthquake has deepened the challenges such as struggle, displacement and the needs of serious people.”

Further requirements, less resources

UNOPS, the largest UN presence in Myanmar, has collected $ 2.5 million in a few weeks of the disaster and has provided life -efficient assistance to five million people so far. You know, about 500 employees are employed in UNOPs.

Executive Director da Silva said, “My colleagues started work immediately as soon as the partner organization started, clean water was transported and experts in the construction sector were deployed for rapid evaluation.”

Morira da Silva warned that despite all this, more international cooperation was needed to tackle this horrible crisis.

The World Bank assumes that the total loss has reached about $ 1 billion, while on the other hand, the restructuring may cost two to three times higher. Also, it is necessary to remove more than 2.5 million ruins to start the reconstruction process.

He said that the process of reconstruction should be government-centric, inclusive and related to peace.

He said, “We repeat the application of other UN agencies that claim to abolish violence … the process of reinforcement and reconstruction should be helpful to lead Myanmar to peace and reunion. The protection of the common people should be the first priority.”

Women are most affected

This human crisis has had the most impact on women and girls, many of whom have died and many are injured and now have serious threats to protect them.

According to UNFPA, the UN Breeding Health Organization, more than 46 lakh women in the breeding age are now at risk. This number includes more than 2.2 million pregnant women.

Also, health benefits have increased due to damage, monsoon floods and insecurity and this damage has disrupted urgent maternity care and clean -cleaning access to the stru tusrub.

At the same time, gender-based violence is growing rapidly in crowded and lower-laden shelters.

Uplift

Due to contaminated water, pests like cholera and pests, malaria, are also growing rapidly.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), no major diseases were reported until May 7, but diarrhea problems and skin infections are increasing.

Rainy rainfall has worsened the situation in temporary shelters, where traffic congestion and dirt are causing serious health problems.

In addition to these, in a recent survey, 67 percent of people say about earthquakes and sensitive issues related to ongoing war.

The WHO and its partners have feared more than 3 million diseases such as Titanus and Rabiz, but there is also a lack of funds for access and lack of funding for healthcare.

Long -term crisis

UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, says more than 32 million people have been displaced in Myanmar since February 2021, and at least one million people have taken shelter in neighboring countries.

Millions of Rohingya refugees are not included in Myanmar who have escaped the waves of violence in Myanmar.

Myanmar is still one of the most dangerous countries in the world, where explosives and war remains on the ground, there are threats of death and injury.

In the first nine months of 2021, the casualties of six people were registered. It has been revealed that this number may be higher than the number of 122 in 2021.
