At the international level, female genital distortion is considered as human rights abuse, in which treatment is for non-medical causes, a part of the female genitalia is removed or damaged.
23 million girls and women around the world suffer from this practice. Apart from these, there are about 2 million other women and girls in the next five years, the victims have been victimized.

This group traveled from Djibouti City to remote villages and works to raise awareness. Members of this group, especially the boys, are focused on making awareness, as they can play an important role in changing social attitudes.
Hawa Mohammad Kamil encouraged his family to accept this message. It was a simple but a revolutionary message for a conservative zone: move away from danger.
It is important to break the wicked chakra
In the northern-class province Tadjorah region, 39-year-old khadi, crossing miles long, went to persuade the family to keep their daughters away from this practice.
When UNFPA-Unif’s awareness session came to her village Otoy about the elimination of female genital distortions, they decided to join the promotion inspired by it.

He told UNFPA, “Twenty years ago, I spent the situation in my daughter. But now I swear that I will protect my grandson’s practice.”
She has seen the hazards, infections, complications and pain of tragic death during childbirth.
He said, “We saw many women’s lives end
He began to spread the message of change to people through women, then men and religious leaders. However, his journey was not easy. Women said that their communities were excluded and were punished for spreading ‘false information’.
Khadija said, “People were skeptical about my motives. He was not ready to believe that I was doing this with my heart without any greed.” However, his purpose has been firm. Hawa Mohammad Kamil said, “I am proud of the changes we are seeing today.”

This change was very important for Khadija: his village recently announced the renunciation of this practice.
He said, “Change takes time, but in the end it is possible.”
