Pakistan: Bomb blast kills seven, including five school children, UNICEF condemns

According to media reports, the explosion occurred in the Mastung district of Balochistan province in the southwest of the country on Friday morning.

The explosive was strapped to a motorcycle. It is reported that seven people including five children lost their lives and 17 people were injured in the incident.

The children injured in the blast were present in a nearby school at that time.

UNICEF has expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

UNICEF expressed frustration that no parent would send their children to school in the morning when they did not know they would not be able to return home that day.

“Children and teenagers are not and should never be the targets of violence. Their safety and security must always be ensured and their fundamental rights upheld.”

UNICEF points out that this is never acceptable around educational institutions and health centers. Going to school will never become an adventure for children.

“Schools must be safe, where children can learn safely, be with their friends and gain the skills they need for the future.”

Calling for an end to senseless violence, UNICEF said the safety of all children must be taken into account.
