Protection Council: The urge to save Yemen from the hole in regional instability

Addressing representatives of the Member States at a meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday, the special envoy said that Yemen had faced violent conflicts between Houthi fighters and government security forces over the past decade.

Hans Gundberg said that millions of lives and livelihoods are at risk, but there is no sign of the decline in this conflict.

He warned that violence was still an instant threat, and the economy was facing the conflict. Reduction of national posture has been recorded, purchasing energy is decreasing rapidly and the risk of spreading poverty is increasing.

“The more money in human pockets, the value is either decreasing or it is ending.”

At present, 1.7 million people in Yemen are victims of food insecurity. In the absence of human assistance, this image can reach 1.8 crore by September of this year.

More than 10 million children under the age of five are malnourished and their lives are risky.

For emergency relief cases, UN general secretary Tom Flatcher said that in the beginning of the 202222, it has not been a serious situation since the ceasefire between the United Nations.

Regional instability crisis

Special Messenger Hans Grundberg warned that the prevailing instability in the Middle East had a profound impact on Yemen.

In recent times, Ansar Allah Daldali (Elephant Fighters) attacked ships in the Red Sea, in response to which Israel targeted Yemen’s port and other basic installations, including Yemen’s ports and power plants.

“The Yemeni will not be allowed to deepen the regional crisis deeper, causing the subtle situation in the country to weaken. A lot for Yemen is at risk.”

According to special messengers, the ceasefire between Iran and Israel has raised the hope that the conversation for Yemen may resume. For this, he emphasized taking practical steps so that the land of permanent solution can be prepared by escaping from turmoil.

Some people are collecting relief products from a food distribution center run by WFP in Aslam district of Yemen.

Emphasize on peace discussion

Hans Grundberg said that if discussions do not go forward to establish peace, the humanitarian crisis in the country will deepen. “A military solution is a dangerous solution, risk to deepen Yemen’s pain.”

He mentions the Taiz Governor, where both sides have shared the responsibility for the maintenance of the water supply system. Through this, safe drinking water can be provided more than six million people.

Special messenger said that the dialogue process is not easy, but this is the best hope for removing the complexities of this violent conflict.

International support application

The Hans Grandberg Protection Council requested the Country to give priority to Yemen.

He recovered the appeal for the release of all humanitarian assistance workers, including UN employees, and said that assistants need to provide assistance to the ground effort.

Special messenger said that the future of Yemen depends on our joint resolution to protect it from misery, so that the local people could be given hope and dignity, which they possess.
