The Magical Charm of AI-Inspired Artwork in "Digital Environmentalism"

Large nature model The creator of this work is renowned media personality Refik Anadol, who has used artificial intelligence (AI) to raise awareness of the beauty and fragility of the world’s coral reefs, as well as the urgent need to address the climate crisis.

These amazing shapes appear and shrink in a mixture of green, orange and white veins, shrinking into each other and expanding outwards, and it is an endless sequence, in which no single form or trend recurs.

The music playing in the background mesmerizes the audience. If your gaze stops somewhere while watching this work, you cannot escape its hypnotic spell.

The artwork is displayed on the entire wall of the UN headquarters complex to mark major events such as the high-level week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly and future summits.

It is almost impossible for big personalities around the world to ignore this magnificent masterpiece.

The purpose of the author of this work was to draw people’s attention, as well as draw attention to two major global issues discussed in the General Assembly’s high-level general debate at the UN headquarters. Those issues are: the climate crisis and the impact of artificial intelligence (AI).

silent message

To create this masterpiece, millions of images of coral reefs were collected with the help of AI. It is worth noting that many types of coral reefs are at risk due to sea level rise.

The effect of seeing this work is mesmerizing to the viewer and poignant in the context, which is that coral reef ecosystems are extremely fragile to withstand the effects of climate change.

Coral reefs are like giant underwater cities, supporting 25 percent of marine life. If climate conditions remain the same, these coral reefs may disappear by the end of this century.

Producer Rafik Anadol unveiled the work saying, “I think Large Nature Model: Coral “The work inspires people to see how technology can deepen our connection to the earth and empower us to work together toward a more sustainable world.”

Vilas Dhar, president of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, an organization devoted to social welfare, had similar thoughts. The company is active in advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and data science solutions for the common good.

United Nations Department of Global Communications (DGC) Under-Secretary-General Melissa Fleming was also impressed by the creation.

Both these institutions have organized this exhibition.

Reconstructing perspective

“This work is not just a tool for innovation – it’s a force that can reshape the way we see our planet and connect us to the beauty and fragility of nature like never before,” says Vilas Dhar.

“Refik Anadolu’s brilliant imagination encourages us to use technology to harness our senses and create a deeper emotional connection with our natural world.”

Large Nature Model: Coral The work is on display at UN headquarters from 21 to 28 September, coinciding with the Future Summit and Panchayat of World Leaders at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Both these mega events will focus on strengthening multilateralism and discuss key challenges and opportunities, including those posed by new and emerging technologies such as AI.

"Large Nature Model: Coral" For this, millions of photos were collected which were given this look with the help of AI.
