According to media reports, a strong earthquake was felt in the area at 9 am local time on Tuesday. At least more than 120 people were reported killed and more than 150 injured in the disaster.

The Shigatse area of ​​Dingri County in the Tibet Autonomous Region bordering China and Nepal was the worst hit, with more than 1,000 buildings damaged.

The magnitude of this earthquake is 6.8 on the Richter scale.

Stephane Dujarric, a spokesman for the top UN official, issued a statement on Tuesday on behalf of the secretary-general, expressing grief over the loss of life and property caused by the earthquake in China’s Tibet Autonomous Region.

The UN Secretary General wished the injured a speedy recovery and expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
