According to the World Health Organization (WHO), female genital distortion or female hazard (FGM) is considered as a human rights violation, where for non-medical reasons, a part of female genitalia is removed or damaged.
On Thursday, UN general secretary Anantonio Gutresh said in his message, “Twenty million girls and women around the world have been subjected to this heinous system.”
He describes this practice as one of the most cruel practices of gender discrimination.
UN Sexual and Breeding Health Organization – UNFPA, UN Children’s Fund and World Health Organization have confirmed that FGM has no health benefits, but it has lived.
These include serious infections, complexity of childbirth, continuous pain and mental shock.
Antonio Gutresh emphasized, “This heinous violation of human rights is very important to stop immediately, and this is also possible.”
Progress and challenge
About 70 million girls and women have been provided with the World Health Organization’s joint programs on the elimination of FGM, with the UNFPA and UNICEF’s joint programs.
Under this initiative, about 12,000 companies have been activated at the ground level and one lakh 12 thousand communities and in advance front people have been trained.
Also, about 10 million people have announced their commitment to the public, to end this dangerous practice of harassing women.
‘Increase speed’
The theme of this year is to promote women’s situation to eliminate the situation – increase speed, which is called to increase global efforts to eradicate this practice and break the harmful sex and social trends that promote it.
“We need to strengthen our global movement to break the harmful methods, beliefs and gender -oriented ideas,” said Antonio Gutresh.
