Ukraine: Gunpowder scattered instead of green in the field, farmers face wealth

Thousands of farmers and rural families have been cut off the field. There are landmines on arable land somewhere, then there are many companies that have even become impossible to buy seeds and fertilizers.

Ukraine has become a huge grain export country in the world, but has been deeply damaged in the agricultural sector since the Russian military invasion in February 2022. Agricultural production has been damaged and farmers’ income has decreased.

There are many rural families across the country, which are dependent on farming and run elderly or women.

These people grow vegetables in small fields, take care of cows or chickens, and are trying to live their lives in firing without electricity without reaching the market. The work that was once part of his routine, now has become a serious risk.

Small farmers and rural families have suffered the most impact of violence. Due to the gunpowder, the disadvantages of agricultural land corruption, lack of workers, increasing costs and power cutting are standing in front of them. Thousands of farmers have a huge shortage of necessary equipment, materials and services.

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) It is warned that these families will not be able to sow timely and harvest in time, which will not only make their livelihood, but also protect the food of the whole country.

Farm

According to the Ukraine government, the World Bain, the European Union and the United Nations, Ukraine’s agricultural sector has so far lost $ 1.8 billion, and the irrigation sector has decreased $ 1.6 billion.

According to the FAO, immediate assistance is needed to ensure access to human fields and to provide seeds, fertilizers, savings and energy. However, the requirements are not just urgent relief, but for an organized and long -term plan, so that Ukraine’s agricultural system goes to the left and rural life is sustainable.

FAO’s disaster and ease director, Rain Pason, recently visited the Japorizka region. He said, “War is still influencing millions of people. Rural border communities are among the most vulnerable and lowest supporters.”

“These families want to stand for them, they want to stay on their land, and agriculture assistance is an effective way to achieve this goal.”

So far the assistance to the affected families is not enough. Many rural families are still in the possibility of being behind. If the help is not available continuously, their ability to sow, harvest and reconstruct them will weaken.

The deepest crisis of money and cut

Since 2022, the FAO has provided seeds, animal food, cash and other assistance to two and a half million rural families, and has provided more than 3,000 farmers to crop seeds, storage facilities and financial support.

Surveying damaged land with the FAO partners is increasing to reach agriculture.

Director Palson said, “This work is very important … agriculture is not only a means of livelihood, it is the basis of rural society, and these families are still standing, they need to settle down not only to survive, but also to move forward.”

However, the lack of funds for the UN agency’s emergency and reconstruction project remains a barrier to the lack of funds for 2025-2026.

Among the challenges of the global money cut, FAO Ukraine appealed to donors and partners to give more support to farmers, as their role not only for food protection, but also for long -term restoration.
