UN Adventure plans to prepare un for the future

At an informal meeting organized by the UN 80 initiative, the ambassadors of the member states had the opportunity to share their views on this reform agenda launched by General Secretary Antonio Guterres in March.

The UN 80 initiative is based on three main functionality: promoting skills and reforms, reviewing the implementation of mandate overall and ensuring structural changes and re -organizing programs across the UN system.

UN improvement

The purpose of this initiative is to strengthen the UN skills to meet global challenges such as struggle, displacement and climate crisis. At the same time, it is an attempt to effectively manage the budget and increase political differences.

The general secretary of policy affairs and the chairman of the activist forces observed the project, the cow rider said, “Often UN 80 initiatives are introduced as a practice to reduce the expenditure simply, which is not correct.”

He said, “The general secretary has made it clear that the purpose of this initiative is to strengthen and enable the UN,” he has made clear that our declining resources.

Influence

At the morning session of the one -day meeting held on Thursday, the general secretary of the Under Policy Affairs, the Cow Raider and the UN Controller, Chandramouli Ramnathan (who prepared the budget and operated the organization), informed about the progress of the UN 80’s two major activities.

The cow driver presented UN 80 background and current global situation via a slidshore. Over time, the United Nations has adopted about 5 different mandates, which have been applied by a complex combination of more than 5 companies.

In 2023, the United Nations provides about $ 69 billion assistance and services worldwide. The largest part of it – ie $ 31 billion or about 45 percent – was allocated for humanitarian assistance.

The $ 21 billion (30 percent) development program was then spent $ 9 billion (13 percent) for peace and protection work and about 1 billion (1 percent) in human rights work.

“We believe the whole population of the world is involved in the United Nations global agenda in any way or in a different way,” the cow rider said. He also said that the UN directly influences the lives of about 10 million people through the development program, when about 10 million people assist in the crisis situation.

Reap

The cow rider said that the total available funds of the United Nations were $ 69 billion two years ago – it is the highest amount so far. However today this number has dropped to about $ 50 billion, which is a “sign of serious uncertainty”.

This 5 percent reduction means that development efforts are now limited to only 10 million people, while the resources available for humanitarian support will be reduced to only 10 million people.

In this context, the cow rider said, “It is possible that we do not only flow into the process of implementing the prescribed orders, but also improve the structure of the spine of various UN systems.”

He emphasized, “The success of the UN initiative will depend on how positively we can have on those people with our actions, whose organization is formed to serve.”

Proposal to increase skills

Chandramouli Ramnathan informed the representatives of the progress that took place in the first workplace. He said that an action group has been formed to enhance efficiency, reduce, standardize service and transfer the work to existing duty stations.

In this “detailed list”, integrated support centers are planned to bring existing services related to human resources, money and purchase. It will start with New York and Geneva, as these two cities have the largest number of units and employees of the United Nations.

Under another proposal, the salary-tahbil operation will be concentrated in only three global centers instead of the current 10 space.

Chandramouli Ramnathan said that the work group would finalize these proposals and handed it over to the general secretary. “If they get approval, they will be presented in front of the General Assembly as a revision in the budget of the 2026 program.”

He said, “In addition to the UN 80, we are also reviewing the budget proposals of the 2026 program, so that the total expenditure can be reduced by a reduction of 5-20 percent and decreasing 20 percent among the staff.

‘Mandate Amber’

With information about the second workpost, the cow rider said that its first episode was “Mandate’s long list” – that is, a close review of all orders implemented by the United Nations.

It started with the Secretariat Department, Peace Campaign, Political Mission, Regional Commission and other agencies.

In this review, orders such as the ‘Future Agreement’ and 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were most mentioned.

This detailed landscape indicates that the UN Secretariat currently provides services to about 5 inter -government agencies, conducting about 2 27.5 meetings every year and a documentation of 2,5 pages a day – which cost about $ 36 million a year.

Now a “Mandate Resource Registry” has been prepared. Based on this, a report will be provided in late July, which will help to guide the upcoming strategies.

Concern about the proposed budget discount

During the meeting, many representatives shared their views on UN 80 initiatives. Iraqi Ambassador Dr. Abbas Kadham Obaid, Group -77 and China proposed 15 to 20 percent budget and expressed concern over 20 percent employees.

He raised the question of what was the decision to decide these information, “This is important because we know that the organization’s various funds, programs and agencies – all departments and categories – are completely different from each other.”

He said, “The geographical and sexual balance should be taken care of any kind of cut. Since the group has repeated many times, transparency, accountability and inclusion should be universal in this whole process.”

Suitable for the future

The meeting was held at a time when the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter signing (26 June 1945) was a few days left.

In his inaugural address, Mahasov’s President Philomon Young said the same.

He said, “This is the opportunity to consider the last 5 years of achievements and at the same time to focus on the future – so that the UN remains purposeful, impressive and relevant in the next decade.”
