UNGA79: Call for Youth Investment for Inclusive, Sustainable Development - Bangladesh

He said this in the general debate at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday.

Mohammad Yunus lauded the role of youth in Bangladesh and called on world leaders to invest in the young generation in their countries to build a fairer, more equitable world.

The Chief Adviser said, today he has got the opportunity to stand in this parliament of the country, which was possible only because of the transformation that took place in Bangladesh in July and August.

According to him, the power of the people of Bangladesh helped liberate the country from autocratic and undemocratic rule and the youth-led movement ushered in a new phase of political consciousness in Bangladesh.

He also supported human dignity, freedom and social justice and recognized that these major changes also brought with them challenges.

However, Chief Advisor Yunus expressed confidence that the country will be able to move forward through the tolerance and passion of ordinary citizens. “Their perseverance is laying the foundation for a more just and prosperous future.”

In his address, he emphasized the importance of keeping democratic values ​​at the fore and ensuring the human rights of all citizens and reiterated that his country was on the path to peace, development and upholding human rights.

Mohammad Yunus said the principles of freedom and dignity are at the heart of his country’s governance and international standing. In this continuation he recalled the historical context of Bangladesh for independence, when independence was the goal.

“Our people have fought with extraordinary bravery for freedom and their rights and the youth of today continue this fight. “Our future is about demanding justice, equality and a voice.”

The Bangladeshi leader called for creating an environment where youth can thrive, find innovative solutions and lead.

He said there is an important relationship between youth empowerment and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Youth play an important role in addressing other global challenges, including climate change, poverty and inequality.

Mohammed Yunus called on world leaders to invest in the inherent potential of youth to build an inclusive, equitable and sustainable world.
