UNGA79: Pakistan's systematic killing of Palestinians in Gaza

The Pakistani prime minister also mentioned the Kashmir issue while addressing the annual general debate of the 79th session of the General Assembly in New York on Friday.

Prime Minister Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif said on the Gaza issue, “As human beings, can we remain silent while children are buried under the rubble of their own destroyed homes? Can we turn our eyes to the mothers who carry the lifeless bodies of their children?

He said, “It is not just a war; This is a premeditated genocide against the Palestinian people.”

Kashmir issue

Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif also mentioned Kashmir, a contentious issue between Pakistan and India for decades.

He said, “The people of Kashmir are determined to reject the false Indian identity that the central government of India is trying to impose on them. Very serious conditions and atrocities are being carried out there.”

“India’s policy of brutal oppression and persecution in Occupied Kashmir has ensured that Burhan Wani’s legacy continues to inspire the struggle and sacrifice of millions of Palestinians,” the Pak Prime Minister said.

“I want to make it very clear that Pakistan will respond to any Indian aggression in a very decisive manner,” he asserted.

The debt cycle

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in his address also referred to the developing world where nearly 100 developing countries are trapped in a vicious cycle of debt and lack of funds.

Calling it a “death trap” rather than a “debt trap,” he said, “Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals under these circumstances is a long way off.”

The Pakistani prime minister stressed that the international financial framework and the global trade and technology system “need to be reformed to support development and promote global equity.”
