Yemen: To end the war, 'political solutions can be achieved'

In Yemen, for more than a decade, Houthi fighters (Ansar Allah) and Saudi Arabia have fought for more than a decade. The special envoy has said that implementing ceasefire in the Gaza Valley is a strong step in the delicate situation in the Middle East.

“We saw the attack on the party of Allah on the ships in the Red Sea and Israel.” He said that the release of members of a ship called Motor Wessel Galaxy Leader and Motor of Motor is a relief.

Hans Gundberg requested the international community that the opportunity to reduce the dispute must be taken, though the huge challenges are still intact.

He worried that in January, Houthi fighters have the fourth wave of voluntary detention of UN employees, which is extremely annoying.

Houthi rebels have arrested the UN, NGO, civil society and embassy employees, many of which have been imprisoned for the past few years.

Special envoys mentioned that it was not only a violation of his basic human rights, but also a threat to the UN skills to provide humanitarian assistance to millions of Yemen.

He requested the recently detained World Food Program (WFP) employee to investigate the death of the criminals and fix the accountability of the criminals.

Challenging situation

Special envoy has said that military activities are underway in Yemen, and in advance of the fighting fronts, the submission of troops and equipment has been reported. Also, Houthi fighters have tried to firing in many regions, attacking drones and infiltration.

Hans Grundberg called for all warnings to avoid any action taken to retaliate, which would increase tension and Yemen would again be involved in a violent fight.

He also expressed deep concern over the degraded economic conditions in the country, which caused the internationally recognized governments and the regulated regions controlled by the effective fighters.

The city of Aden is under the control of the Yemeni government, but there is a power supply for three days last week, against which people came out on the road. Yemen’s posture has also decreased, which is increasing prices.

Marked as terrorist groups

Recently, the United States has announced the identification of Houthi rebels as a foreign terrorist agency. US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order on January 22, which will be implemented within 7 days.

Hans Grundberg said that the issue was sought in clear, but it is important to protect our efforts to move the peace process forward.

During the past one month, the UN Messenger has been in talks with all the regional and international aspects. He said that the desires of permanent peace can be fulfilled, it is possible and practical.

Millions

For coordination of humanitarian issues, Tom Flatcher, the head of the United Nations Office (OCHA), mentioned the dead WFP employee, saying that humanitarian assistance workers should be ensured in the country.

According to him, 1.5 million people in the country need support, millions of people are hungry and they are at risk of serious illness. There are more than 70 percent of the needy women and children.

Only last month, the WFP reported that the Yemeni population percent 1 percent was unable to meet its diet requirements and it reflects the increase in three percent point points compared to November.

12 million children are deprived of school, while half of the age of five years old is malnourished.

Tom Flatcher said that despite all the risks, humanitarian assistance was underway in Yemen, though UN employees were forced to make some tough decisions due to custody.

Due to the security challenges, the UN has temporarily shut down its relief operation in the Sauda Governor, but it is trying to get a security guarantee, so that it can be resumed soon.
