Dehradun. A passenger bus fell into a deep gorge in Almora, Uttarakhand on Monday morning. 36 people died in this accident, while six people were injured. The accident happened near Marchula in Almora. There were 42 passengers in the bus. The reason for the accident has not been known. But it is said that the bus went out of control at the turn and fell into the ditch. Giving information about the incident, Kumaon Division Commissioner Deepak Rawat said – The bus stopped after getting stuck in a tree about 10 feet before the river. While falling into the ditch, many passengers were thrown out of the windows due to the shock.
It has been told that the bus was going from Kinath to Ramnagar and there were mostly local passengers in the bus. It is also reported that Monday was the first working day after the long holiday of Diwali and other festivals. That’s why the bus was completely full. Police said that the bus belonged to Garhwal Motors Owners Union Limited. Initial investigation revealed that the condition of the bus was very bad.
On Monday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was in Delhi but as soon as he got information about the incident, he left the meeting and left for Almora. The Chief Minister has announced an assistance amount of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to the injured. Also instructed the Commissioner of Kumaon Division to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The officials of Pauri and Almora who inspected and approved the bus have been suspended. The condition of some of the injured is critical, who have been taken to Rishikesh AIIMS by helicopter.
