New Delhi. After the announcement of the election schedule, changes in its dates are continuing. This time the Election Commission has made changes in the programs of by-elections. Now by-elections for assembly seats in three states will be held on November 20 instead of 13. The Election Commission on Monday changed the date of assembly by-elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Kerala. The Election Commission said on Monday that voting for 14 assembly seats in the three states will now be held on November 20 instead of November 13. The results will come only on 23rd November.
It was told by the Election Commission that voting will now be held on nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, four in Punjab and one in Kerala on November 20. It has been told that the change in voting dates has been done on the demand of BJP, Congress, Rashtriya Lok Dal and BSP. According to the Election Commission, these parties said that November 15 is Kartik Purnima and Prakash Parv of Gurunanak Devji. Whereas, Kalapathy Rastholsevam will be celebrated in Kerala from 13 to 15 November. This would have affected voting. For this reason the voting date has been extended. However, Samajwadi Party has opposed the extension of voting date in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Election Commission’s announcement on Monday, the date of voting on 33 seats in 11 states has not been changed. That means, voting on these 33 seats will take place on November 13 only as per the pre-determined schedule. Voting will be held on 43 seats of Jharkhand Assembly on the same day. Along with this, by-elections will also be held on Wayanad Lok Sabha seat of Kerala. It is noteworthy that on October 15, the Election Commission had announced the dates of by-elections for 47 assembly and two Lok Sabha seats of 14 states along with Maharashtra and Jharkhand.
Now the Commission has postponed the by-elections on 14 seats in three states. Now voting will be held on 14 assembly seats on November 20. On that day, voting will be held on all 288 seats of Maharashtra Assembly and 38 seats of Jharkhand. Apart from this, there is by-election for Nanded Lok Sabha seat of Maharashtra and Kedarnath Assembly seat of Uttarakhand on the same day. Counting of seats in both the states and by-elections will take place on November 23.
