Chief Justice heard 45 cases on the last day

New Delhi. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will retire on November 10, 2024, but before that, on November 8, the last day of his tenure, he heard 45 cases. A ceremonial bench sat to bid farewell to him on his last working day in the Supreme Court. There was live streaming of the bench proceedings. Apart from Justice Manoj Mishra, Justice JB Pardiwala, senior lawyers, Justice Sanjeev Khanna, who took over as Chief Justice from November 10, also joined him.

It is noteworthy that Justice Chandrachud was promoted to the Supreme Court from the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court on 13 May 2016. During his tenure, Chief Justice Chandrachud was a part of 1,274 benches. He wrote a total of 612 judgments. Among the current judges of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Chandrachud has written the maximum number of judgments. Even on the last day he heard 45 cases. It is noteworthy that the major decisions of Chief Justice Chandrachud’s two-year tenure include decisions like Article 370, Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, One Rank One Pension, Madrasa Case, Sabarimala Temple controversy, validity of electoral bonds and CAA, NRC.
