Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu are to be held in May 2026. In this respect, there is still one and a half year time but politics has intensified there. The state’s main opposition party Anna DMK has made it clear that it will contest the elections alone. He has ruled out the possibility of any coordination with the BJP. It is noteworthy that in the Lok Sabha elections also, Anna DMK had contested the elections alone and BJP had formed its alliance by coordinating with some other small parties. The BJP alliance did not get any seats yet its performance was very good. That is why it is believed that BJP will be a big force in the 2026 assembly elections.
On the other hand, despite the division, Anna DMK is still a strong force. However, if Palaniswami and Panneerselvam had been together, the strength of the party would have been greater. Palaniswami has announced not to coordinate with BJP, so it is possible that BJP may coordinate with Panneerselvam. So, if Anna is in DMK field than DMK alliance, then the third front will be of BJP. The fourth front or the fourth force is of Tamil film superstar Vijay. He has formed Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam i.e. TVK party and has announced to contest on all seats in the next elections. So, there will be at least a four-way contest. It is too early to say anything about the contest but if Vijay gets anti-incumbency votes then MK Stalin’s party DMK and its alliance may benefit.
